Storytelling

Embodied storytelling is a collective way of bringing the wisdom found in myths and folktales into our own bodies. Each event will center around a story picked specifically for that time. After reading the story aloud, people are invited into a guided movement meditation, designed to release trapped emotions that may have been activated by the story.

Cascadia Mystery School regularly offers femme folktale gatherings in Portland, Oregon. These circles center a myth that feels resonant for these times. We read the story together and afterwards, include a creative embodiment practice like visual art or movement. The circle closes with ample time for a group share about what came up for you.

While in Western society we are trained at a young age to analyze, critique and compare literature, this approach is different. We are stepping out of our intellect and moving down into our body.

What is activated when you read this story?

Who do you relate to?

Who do you see as the enemy?

What happens when we tend to these parts of our selves and allow them to express?

What space, if any, is created in this process?

Bringing stories down to the Earth.
